What’s In a Name? The Importance of a Great Name For Your Business

The Importance of a Great Name For Your Business

I have been thinking a lot lately about the importance of having an amazing business name, and how much it makes a difference to business success. The thing that sprung my attention was a fashion sho which I saw last week, these guys make their own clothes and they call themselves ‘Sew In’ a brilliant name, super creative and just right on the money. Looking at some of the names which I see, there is no doubt in my mind that many really don’t give the attention that they should to the name of their business, but here is why they should.

Memorable

One of the most important reasons as to why you should put some serious thought into the name of your business is that it becomes memorable, vital to bringing customers back. A memorable name also inspires you to talk about it more with family or with friends. When something is this memorable it means that you get some free marketing off the back of it. Take the clothing shop I just mentioned, that stuck with me so much that I’m writing a blog post about it.

Brand Imaging

In the modern world a brand is more important than anything because of the fact that there is so much competition to stand out. This is again why a name is so important because that is what you are going to be using to brand your business. When thinking about the name of your company consider it plastered across bags and merchandising items, how great is that name going to look then? This is essential in terms of giving you a real solid brand visibility and it will increase your chances of success.

Says What It Is

Whilst you can go a bit left-field with your name, it is far better to focus on a name which offers some level of description as to what your business is all about. This just skips a step with regards to customers getting to know you and your business and it is very positive when it comes to bringing people through the doors. If you have a tire place called burning rubber for example, people are going to probably work out quickly who you are and what you do. The next time someone needs some tires, they’ll think of you right away.

When you are working out what your name should be, make sure that you have given it a lot of thought, bounce your ideas off others before making your decision. In line with the decision about the name of your business you should also be thinking about logos and branding because this could certainly help your ability to market and drive consumers to your business. One thing which you have to avoid is thinking that the decision about your business name is not important, this couldn’t be further from the truth, so be sure to get it right first time.
